Trusted MAYFIELD features have been included in a new skull clamp engineered for use with the Infinity Support System as well as general applications for Neurosurgical procedures.

Multiple, quick-change, snap-in rocker arm options provide the ability to match the stabilization points to the size of the patient’s head for optimal fixation and surgical access. No tools are needed to change rocker arms.

Two Torque Screw options assist in providing the desired amount of pressure for the patient and the procedure. Along with the standard MAYFIELD 80-lb Torque Screw, a reduced load 18-lb Torque Screw is provided for procedures where lower, more controlled pressure and less penetration of the pins is desired. (Note: The reduced load Torque Screw should always be used in conjunction with a horseshoe headrest or other form of primary patient head support.)

Failure to read and follow instructions furnished in this product insert may result in serious patient injury.The Skull Clamp must be applied along the centerline of the patient’s head with pins entering the skull perpendicularly. Failure to properly position the skull clamp on the patient’s head could result in patient injury such as scalp laceration due to skull pin slippage. Failure to properly position patient and to fully secure all adjustment positions of the skull clamp or any support device may result in patient injury. Do not steam sterilize; components may be damaged by high heat leading to device damage and reduced performance. Always use a Horseshoe Headrest or other form of primary support when using the Reduced Load Torque Screw. Non-Mayfield branded products used with MAYFIELD products – We caution that we have only validated MAYFIELD products used in conjunction with the MAYFIELD product line, and as a result, cannot advise you whether suppliers’ products would work properly with the MAYFIELD line of products. The Reduced Load Torque Screw must be used in conjunction with a horseshoe headrest or some other form of primary patient head support to provide skeletal fixation. Always use a horseshoe headrest or other form of primary patient head support when using the reduced load torque screw. Do not attempt to exceed 18 lbs of applied force with this accessory. Never attempt to resharpen skull pins. Dull or bent pins should be replaced. Skull pins are not recommended for use on children under five (5) years of age and extreme caution should be exercised in pediatric cases because of the thin skull. MAYFIELD child skull pins are recommended for young children over the age of five (5) years. It is at the discretion of the user, when the adult or child skull pins should be used. Failure to properly position patient and to fully secure all adjustments portions of this or any support device may result in serious patient injury. Loading in excess of 80 lbs. is NOT RECOMMENDED.

Cautions
Visually confirm that there are no skull pins in the rocker arm or torque screw before removing the rocker attachment. It is safest to completely remove the ratchet extension from the clamp before removing skull pins or changing rocker attachments. Adjusting the pin carrier will influence the total force applied to the patient. After every third adjustment made to the pin carrier, verify the total force applied to the patient by looking at the force gauge on the torque screw. The total force may be higher or lower than its initial value. Do NOT attempt to exceed the fourth graduation when adjusting a pin carrier. Carefully inspect reusable skull pins before each use. To maintain proper fixation, pins should be of equal length. Damaged (dull, bent, etc.) pins should be replaced. It is recommended that spare pins always be kept available. Make sure the trajectory of the single pin in the skull clamp intersects the center of the patient’s head and the rocker arm to correctly secure the patient’s head into the skull clamp. Avoid the areas of the frontal sinus, temporal fossa, major blood vessels, nerves, previously restored or abnormally thin bone. Before fully tightening, always be certain that the sunburst teeth of the Swivel Adaptor and the Transitional Member fittings are the same size and properly mesh. Failure to do so may damage fittings. Do not steam sterilize. Plastic components may be damaged by the heat.
